Geothermal TREC

At the end of those post is a list of things you will need for this TREC. Remember it is an overnighter and we will be leaving on Friday the 13th (ooooo) and coming back on Saturday the 14th.

The word geothermal refers to the heat or energy inside our planet. It is composed of two words “Geo” which is Greek for “Earth” and “Thermal” which also originates from Greek and means “Heat”. So really what geothermal refers to is “earth heat”. On this weeks TREC we will be considering and experiencing earth-heat. Our travels will take us to the Nisga’a Lava beds and a Hot Spring.

In addition to understanding the geology (notice the same root word “geo” and then the suffix “-olgy” which is Greek for “speaking about”, in other words: speaking about the earth), we will be looking at the Nisga’a culture and stories around their volcano.

We will be getting right up to the cone of the volcano and see ground zero of the volcanic explosion. This will be a great opportunity to see a volcano up close and personal.
