Weekly Outline: Nov. 27th to Dec. 1st

Welcome to the last week of November. That right. December is on the horizon and Christmas is coming soon. The year is flying by.

Report cards will be sent out this week. It should be noted that many students have not attained the 25% course completion yet. In fact it would appear that a majority of our students have not reached this milestone. There are still lots of students who have not completed more than 5% of the course. It is important that you submit assignments and communicate with the teacher. Remember that a “worksheet” is not necissarily an assignment.

Teachers will be communicating with students who are within the 5% to 10% completion rate. They could also be rearranging seating within the classroom if they feel it will help you better accomplish your work and focus. If a teacher requests that you move to another space within the classroom please do not give them attitude and accept that this is for your benefit.

This week we will be working on preparing for our Clam and Cockle digging TREC which is tentatively going to be next week on Dec. 6th and 7th. So be prepared for some group activities over the course of the week.

Cell phone usage has become a problem again. Students are not using the pouches or lieing about having their phones. Well up to this point the staff has been doing their best to work with students the staff has been met with rude behaviour and obfuscation. Thus the staff has agreed to implement the following rules:

Cellphone Policy

This weeks Cell Phone Tokens for positive cell phone usage:

  • David Swanson
  • Rubbyn Steppler
  • Zack Hill
  • Cordel Ryan
  • Kailee Shanoss

Technology Usage: The teachers and I have come up with a better outlined and more specific technology usage policy. It has come to our attention that students have been primarily utilizing YouTube in order to watch it rather than for music. We do understand that at this point Spotify is not a viable alternative but we are looking into ways to make this available for students to listen to music. This would also help with our excessive bandwidth usage.

As such we are instituting two more structures around Technology usage:

  1. You will be given three warnings if you are using technology inappropriately which includes watching clearly watching YouTube rather than using it as a tool for listing to music and focusing. On the fourth time you will have your technology rights suspended for the day and be given off-line work. This technology suspension will communicated to all staff.
  2. In order to reward positive behaviour and use of technology there will also be a “Technology and Behviour Token” given out to select students at the beginning of each week. Much like the Cell Phone token, you will be able to use this during the last week of December in order to submit for a draw on a prize which will be around a $75 value.
